Introduction to Word Classes (ଶବ୍ଦ ଶ୍ରେଣୀ)
Words are the fundamental building blocks of sentences. Just as different characters in a play have different roles to make the play a success, different words in a sentence also play distinct roles to make it meaningful. These roles define a word's class or part of speech (ଶବ୍ଦ ଶ୍ରେଣୀ).
The Eight Word Classes (ଆଠ ପ୍ରକାର ଶବ୍ଦ ଶ୍ରେଣୀ)
English grammar traditionally identifies eight main word classes, each with a specific function (କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ) in a sentence:
1. Noun (ବିଶେଷ୍ୟ)
A Noun is a naming word. It names a person (ବ୍ୟକ୍ତି), an object (ବସ୍ତୁ), a class, a material, a quality (ଗୁଣ), or a feeling (ଭାବନା). Nouns can be countable or uncountable.

- Seeta: This is the name of a person. So, it is a Noun.
- walks: This indicates an action. So, it is a Verb.
- slowly: This tells us how Seeta walks (describes the verb). So, it is an Adverb.
