Introduction to Modal Auxiliaries
Modal auxiliary verbs are a special type of auxiliary verb that precede the main verb to indicate various 'modalities' of expression, such as ability (ସାମର୍ଥ୍ୟ), possibility (ସମ୍ଭାବନା), permission (ଅନୁମତି), obligation (ବାଧ୍ୟତା), or intention (ଅଭିପ୍ରାୟ) [[1]]. Unlike primary auxiliaries (like 'be', 'have', 'do'), modal auxiliaries do not change their form based on the subject and usually do not have time restrictions, referring to the present or future in the same form [[5]].
