Nouns are words that name a person, place, thing, or idea. In English grammar, nouns are broadly classified into two main categories: Countable Nouns (Countables) and Uncountable Nouns (Uncountables). Understanding this distinction is crucial for correct usage of articles, quantifiers, and verb forms.
Countable Nouns (Countables)
Countable nouns are nouns that can be counted. They have both singular and plural forms. We can use numbers like one, two, many, a few, several, etc., before them. We can also use a or an before their singular form [[1]].
Examples:
tree(singular)trees(plural)goat(singular)goats(plural)book(singular)books(plural)
Verb Agreement: Singular Count Nouns take singular verb forms, while Plural Count Nouns take plural verb forms [[5]].
This tree grows well. These trees grow well.
Uncountable Nouns (Uncountables)
Uncountable nouns are nouns that cannot be counted individually. They do not usually go with a/an, one, two, many, etc. They typically do not have a plural form [[1]].
Examples:
water(ଜଳ)grass(ଘାସ)music(ସଙ୍ଗୀତ)food(ଖାଦ୍ୟ)sand(ବାଲି)advice(ଉପଦେଶ)information(ସୂଚନା)money(ଟଙ୍କା)furniture(ଆସବାବପତ୍ର)news(ଖବର)

Special Cases of Uncountable Nouns

Nouns ending in 's': Some nouns ending in
