Introduction to Adverbs (କ୍ରିୟା ବିଶେଷଣର ପରିଚୟ)
Adverbs (କ୍ରିୟା ବିଶେଷଣ) are words that give us more information about verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. They tell us how, when, where, or how often an action happens. For example, in "He behaved foolishly," 'foolishly' tells us how he behaved.
Focus Adverbs (ଫୋକସ୍ କ୍ରିୟା ବିଶେଷଣ)
Focus adverbs are special adverbs like even, only, just, and simply. Their main function is to place emphasis (ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱ) on a specific word or phrase in a sentence. The meaning of the sentence can change significantly depending on where a focus adverb is placed. These adverbs typically focus on the word or phrase that comes immediately before them.
ଫୋକସ୍ କ୍ରିୟା ବିଶେଷଣଗୁଡ଼ିକ ହେଉଛି even, only, just, ଏବଂ simply ପରି ବିଶେଷ କ୍ରିୟା ବିଶେଷଣ।
Example with 'only':
Consider the adverb only and how its position changes the meaning:
- Only I met the boys at school. () (କେବଳ ମୁଁ ହିଁ ପିଲାମାନଙ୍କୁ ସ୍କୁଲରେ ଭେଟିଥିଲି, ଅନ୍ୟ କେହି ନୁହେଁ।)
- I only met the boys at school. () (ମୁଁ କେବଳ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ଭେଟିଥିଲି, ଅନ୍ୟ କିଛି କରି ନଥିଲି।)
- I met only the boys at school. () (ମୁଁ କେବଳ ପିଲାମାନଙ୍କୁ ଭେଟିଥିଲି, ଝିଅମାନଙ୍କୁ କିମ୍ବା ଅନ୍ୟ କାହାକୁ ନୁହେଁ।)
- I met the boys only at school. () (ମୁଁ ପିଲାମାନଙ୍କୁ କେବଳ ସ୍କୁଲରେ ଭେଟିଥିଲି, ସ୍କୁଲ ବାହାରେ ନୁହେଁ।)
In these examples, the adverb only changes its focus, thereby altering the entire meaning of the sentence. This demonstrates the importance of precise placement for focus adverbs.
Sentence Adverbs (ବାକ୍ୟ କ୍ରିୟା ବିଶେଷଣ)
Sentence adverbs are adverbs that express a viewpoint (ଦୃଷ୍ଟିକୋଣ) or opinion about the entire idea expressed in the sentence, rather than just modifying a single verb, adjective, or adverb. They give a general comment on the whole statement.
